What is Pokemon Battrio?

Feed in a hundred yen, take the plastic disc the cabinet gives you, set three of them down and fight. Battrio ran five years and left one thousand one hundred and seventy-one pucks behind.

A v prefix dates a puck to 2011 or later.

The archive has confirmed an honest zero on Battrio pack art: all 26 set pages and the hub have none, and no chapter puck has a product photograph. Sixteen chapter pages do hold individual puck photos. There is no photograph anywhere in the archive of a puck’s rim, of a cabinet, or of a chapter’s own pack. The article’s closing section asks for exactly those.

Pokemon Battrio was a Japanese arcade game by Takara Tomy and AQ Interactive. A hundred-yen coin fed into the cabinet dispensed a puck, a plastic disc forty millimetres across and 3.4 millimetres deep carrying a single Pokemon, and players battled three pucks at a time. [1] [16] The maker’s own name for the object is pack; this archive files it under puck because that is what collectors search. [16] [5] It opened in Japanese arcades in July 2007, ran for five years through five eras, and retired in 2012. [16] [17] [18]

Battrio is the first of a line, since every Takara Tomy Pokemon arcade machine after it has been built around a token the cabinet dispenses: Battrio’s pucks, then Tretta’s chips, Ga-Ole’s disks, Mezastar’s tags and Frienda’s picks. [4] A number is a chapter prefix and a position, so 09-001 is the first puck of the ninth chapter, and the prefixes run 01 through 18 before restarting at v01 to v05 for the V era, so a v prefix dates a puck to that last era. [7] Promotional pucks print Promo where a number would go. [8]

The catalogue here is one thousand one hundred and seventy-one pucks across twenty-six sets, twenty-three numbered chapters and three promo lines, plus a twenty-seventh set now published: Best Selection, a ninety-seven puck reprint set whose pucks repeat their original chapter numbers with BS appended rather than adding new ones. [3] [19] The eras run from the launch chapters of 2007 through Battrio Plus, four Battrio Super chapters, ten of Battrio 0 and five of Battrio V, which restarts the numbering. [10]

Much of the object is still undocumented here: the material beyond the word plastic, anything printed on the rim, and any code band separate from the printed number. Ten sealed retail products are catalogued, but none is a chapter’s pack art, so no set page shows its own. [12] [13] Three photographs would close the gaps, in order of value: a puck on its edge, a chapter’s own cabinet point-of-sale card or puck pack, and a cabinet with its panel. Anyone who worked a Japanese arcade between 2007 and 2012 is holding the second in a drawer. Credit stays with you.

Questions this article answers

Are Battrio pucks the same as coins or chips?

Same object, different words. The product is a puck, a thick forty-millimetre plastic disc dispensed by the arcade cabinet, and this archive files it under puck. Collectors search coins, chips and cards for the same thing, and the later machines in the same family really did rename their tokens, which is where the habit comes from: Tretta had chips, Ga-Ole had disks, Mezastar had tags.

When did Pokemon Battrio come out?

It opened in Japanese arcades in 2007, and the first chapter, Dialga and Palkia Clash, carries a release date of 14 September 2007. The line retired in 2012, and the latest release documented here is 15 April 2012.

How many Battrio pucks are there?

One thousand one hundred and seventy-one across twenty-six sets, of which twenty-three are numbered chapters and three are promotional lines. Every set has its own per-puck list here, numbered exactly as the pucks are printed.

What is Battrio V?

The fifth and final era, five chapters between 2011 and 2012, and the one that restarts the printed numbering at v01. A v prefix on a puck therefore places it in that era. The archive records V as an era band rather than as a machine revision, and it is the era described as graded on a star system.

What is a Battrio memory key?

The only one this archive documents is a Battle Memory Key sold carded with three pucks in the V era, as part of a sealed accessory pack rather than a chapter. What the key did inside the cabinet is not something any page or research file here states, so this archive does not say.
