Pokémon Karuta 2024

The official Pokémon Center product record establishes the Karuta 2024 name, JAN, contents and November 9, 2023 release date. Its sample establishes Zorua at あ. The sample verse is preserved here for reference: あいての すがたに ばけて おどろかせ そのすきに にげだすことが おおい, which describes a Pokémon that disguises itself as its opponent to startle it and then often slips away in that moment.

All 45 kana pairs on this page are read from photographs of cards from this printing. Two independent runs were made to agree before anything was accepted. The first is a 45-variation single-card offer for this release whose listing model publishes one dedicated front photograph per named card, so each of the 45 fronts was opened at full resolution and read for the kana in the white corner disc, the artwork and the printed Japanese name. The second is a run of certified slabs from one graded submission, each certified as Pokémon Karuta with manufacture year 2023 and each carrying its kana in the certified card name. Every position the two runs share agrees card for card.

Three checks were then applied to the finished mapping. The 45 product variation names enumerate the whole deck, and the mapping places every one of them exactly once with no kana doubled, so the result is a bijection rather than a list of plausible guesses. The mapping was compared position by position against the fully mapped Karuta 2025 deck and disagrees at 42 of the 45 kana. The three shared positions are き Quaxly, め Bellibolt and ろ Vulpix, and each of the three rests on its own photograph from this printing rather than on the later deck. The discriminator recorded for this family before this pass now has a readable card behind it as well, because く on this printing is Psyduck while く on the 2025 printing is Farigiraf.

Four published rows are corrected here, and all four failed in the same way. Each earlier identity was taken from the title printed on a grading label, and those titles carry values that belong to the 2025 deck even though the label year of manufacture is 2023. The て label reads Terapagos, but Terapagos was first revealed in 2024 and appears nowhere in the 45 product variation names for this printing, and the て card photographs as Smoliv. The に label reads Sprigatito, and Sprigatito is genuinely in this deck at ま, where a certified 2023 slab and the matching front photograph both place it, so に publishes as Wiglett. The み label reads Mimikyu, and Mimikyu is genuinely in this deck at ぬ, so み publishes as Teddiursa. The り label reads Pikachu, and Pikachu is genuinely in this deck at ほ, so り publishes as Dragapult. In every case the published value is the reading of the card itself.

The four rows that never rested on a label title are unchanged. Zorua at あ is the official product sample, Dragonite at そ comes from an approved contributor photo of this exact release and keeps its existing community-page binding and contributor credit, and Pawmot at ふ and Vulpix at ろ come from readable certified photographs of this printing. All four were read again in the 45-card run and all four agree.

Cards catalogued as 2024 manufacture belong to the next annual product marketed as Karuta 2025 and are excluded. A sales roster can establish that a Pokémon appears somewhere in a box, and a grading label can establish a year of manufacture, but neither can establish a kana position without a readable card from this printing. No marketplace image was copied into Hidden Temple.
