Set Notes
The first Hoenn-era GBA Card Collection. Fifty identities are now documented from card backs and numbered fronts photographed in the same frame as the product box, and 49 of them carry a printed number. That box prints no Roman numeral and no PART line, where the Collection II and III boxes each print both, so these reads are attributed to Part I on positive evidence rather than by default. Part I ships in exactly four box artworks, a Treecko box, a Torchic box, a Mudkip box and a Kyogre box, and every one of them prints the same foot band with no numeral and no PART line, so the foot band is the Part test and the ground colour never is. Four is the figure the leaflet itself prints, and a census of every box photographed across eleven years of archived listings finds those four and no fifth. Three rows have since been corrected against the printed cards. Number 111 is Grumpig and number 165 is Phanpy, each settled by the species classification line, the height and the weight the card back prints, so neither correction rests on the katakana alone. The prism Latios prints 197 on its own face, and 191 is another species in the dex this set is numbered by, so the earlier 191 reading was a digit misread and is retired. The numbers this set prints are not the Ruby and Sapphire regional dex numbers and are never rewritten to match them. Numbers 194, 197, 198 and 199 each sit two below the regional dex position of the species they name, while 155 and 156 match it, so where that offset begins is not yet known. One further row was recorded from a front whose number band is covered in every photograph of it. That row keeps no number until a legible band is read, because filling it from a dex is the one thing this set proves unsafe. The original Part I gashapon leaflet has now been photographed on two separate lots, and both print the same three bullets: 4 body colours, 84 card designs and 4 box types. That 84 is the count the manufacturer itself prints and the word it uses counts designs, so it is a number of card types and never a range. The fronts of this set are numbered by the Hoenn dex and run as high as 199, so the 84 designs are a selection from that dex and no 001 to 084 checklist may be derived from the figure. The count was cropped and enlarged on each leaflet independently before it was recorded, and the box bullet on the same document is confirmed by the box census above, which is why this figure is treated as stronger than a seller claim.
Only source-verified entries are named. Additional designs can be submitted using Add Extra Card; each keeps its own front and back photo keys.
